As it is stated in the Statute: general aim of HID is gathering people interested in improvement of information and documentation services, enabling them exchange of opinions and experience, coordinating their efforts, protecting and promoting professional interests of HID and pleading for their social and economic status.

HID is registered on the address of the National and University Library, Hrvatske bratske zajednice 4, 10 000 Zagreb, Croatia.

FOUNDING OF HID (Croatian Information and Documentation Society) IN 1993

The necessity of founding a professional association of this kind was shown after the Ministry of Science and Technology showed the intention to close down the Institute of Information Science (IZ), former University of Zagreb Referal Centre. It actually happened in May 1994. Croatian Information Documentation Referral Agency (HIDRA) of the Government of the Republic of Croatia was formed on the foundations of IZ.

Foundation meeting took place in the Institute of Information Science (Maršal Tito Square 3, Zagreb) on July 9, 1993.

Present on the meeting were: A. Aganović-Boras, A Božić, Lj. Filaković, G. Gavran, M. Godec, D. Kritovac, M. Kržak, D. Kunštek, V. Marić, Z. Penava, V. Oluić-Vuković, D. Plaščar, B. Podunavac-Škvorc, J. Škvorc, N. Tomljanović, T. Tóth, N. Tudor-Šilović i M. Vujasinović.

During the meeting the first statute of HID was adopted.

Members of the first Management Board were: Miroslav Kržak (Institute of Information Science – IZ), Ivan Mihel (Croatian National and University Library), Zdenka Penava (IZ), Neda Tomljenović (PLIVA pharmaceuticals company), Neva Tudor-Šilović (IZ). Neva Tudor-Šilović was elected president of the newly founded association. Elected for the supervisory board were: Gabrijela Gavran (Vjesnik newspaper), Danko Plevnik (Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper) and Josip Škvorc (State Patents Institute).

Shortly after that, newly elected management successfully registered HID.
